Third Eye Cinema 7/28/13 : Dream Death - the resurrection

This week on Third Eye Cinema: a return engagement I don’t think many listeners were expecting to hear! A man who was the driving force behind a band whose sole studio album has gained a reputation unparalleled in underground metal, an album which has gone for high prices on the collectors market - a true classic which has become quite revered and influential among fans of thrash, doom, and death metal alike for its unique approach and dark, snarling aggression! After dropping out of the music industry at the dawn of the 90’s, he moved on with his life and pursued other interests outside of music. Last year, I invited him on the show as one of many bands whose albums I treasured from back in the heyday of metal, to discuss his brief but important career in the metal underground. During that interview, he mentioned that he was kicking around the idea of putting together some new material. Nearly one year later, we have the result, a surprisingly powerful record that simultaneously looks back to the past and forward to new horizons! Please join us as we speak once again with guitarist and vocalist Brian Lawrence of the band Dream Death, only here on Third Eye Cinema! http://thirdeyecinema.wordpress.com/ http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema

Third Eye Cinema 7/21/13 with Sono Morti

This week on Third Eye Cinema: eerie gothic western stylists Sono Morti! Forming back in 2008 as yet another side project of horror punks The Vladimirs and consisting of 3/4 of that band, this is a different matter entirely: a dark, brooding soundtrack for a horror movie that never was. Their self titled debut record is an unusual and extremely atmospheric musical venture, tapping equally into the more haunting strains of old school country western, the eerie soundscapes of Ennio Morricone, and the more mournful moments of Danzig, Southern Death Cult and Nick Cave! And for those who are still up on their comic book culture, the current EP is based on and ties into an interesting new indie comic series called Revival, which has been described in terms of its very own genre of "farm noir". Join us for another entertaining and informative conversation with Marquis, Brian and Crank of The Vladimirs, as we talk Sono Morti, only here on Third Eye Cinema! http://thirdeyecinema.wordpress.com/ http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema

This week on Third Eye Cinema: we get all ooky spooky with performance art driven crossover act Gothminister! Making their name in Teutonic music circles for both their unusually melodic gothic industrial meets traditional metal sound and a truly old school horror oriented stageshow, the band is led down winding paths of inner darkness by mastermind Bjorn A. Brem, who finds himself sucked from his ordinary daily life to become possessed by the twisted subconscious persona of the Gothminister by night! Join us as we hail, horror, hail with the Gothminister himself, Bjorn Alexander Brem, only here on Third Eye Cinema! http://thirdeyecinema.wordpress.com/ http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema

Next time on Third Eye Cinema: Florida exploitation pioneer Bill Grefe! Breaking into the film industry at the very dawn of the Florida "right to work" boom (which gave us numerous drive in independent gems from the likes of Doris Wishman, Herschell Gordon Lewis, Barry Mahon, Harry Kerwin and Sande Johnson), Bill learned his craft and honed his skills "on the job", producing such well remembered grindhouse favorites as Sting of Death, Death Curse of Tartu, Stanley, Mako: the Jaws of Death and the unforgettable Impulse with William Shatner and Harold "Oddjob" Sakata before moving on from indie film into the lucrative world of advertising! Winner of a number of Florida based film awards and a favorite of the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Bill comes to us with a host of entertaining stories from the ground level of independent filmmaking throughout its glory days in the 60's and 70's! Join us for an entertaining interview with the one and only "Wild" Bill Grefe, only here on Third Eye Cinema!

Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: gothic rock impresario Sam Rosenthal! As bandleader and driving force behind Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Sam has been at the very forefront of the darkwave, dark cabaret and ambient side of the gothic scene since the release of The Rope way back in 1986! 10 albums later, with an oeuvre including such scene favorites as Remnants of a Deeper Purity, As One Aflame Laid Bare by Desire and The Scavenger Bride, Sam, together with former Spahn Ranch frontman Athan Maroulis and female vocalists Laurie Reade and Nicki Jaine, has crafted yet another masterwork in 10 Neurotics, an introspective yet challenging look into the many mindsets of the world of BDSM! As founder and active label owner of Projekt Records, Sam has been one of the two most important sources of gothic music and distribution throughout the 90's to the present day, with such prominent discoveries as Lycia, Voltaire, Audra, and more! Now releasing his first erotic novel, directly tapping into the modern mindset of the 21st century, Sam talks Black Tape, Projekt, filesharing and the changing gothic scene.
