Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: the one and only Herschell Gordon Lewis! Perhaps singlehandedly responsible for creating the nudie-cutie, roughie and gore film genres, Herschell has systematically touched on practically every conceivable exploitation film genre during an amazingly prolific 12 year career as producer, writer, director and frequent scorer of an incredible 38 films! A true giant in 60's drive in/cult film, Herschell has given us such fan favorites as Blood Feast, 2000 Maniacs, She Devils on Wheels, and the Wizard of Gore, as well as being responsible for a number of JD films, down home hillbilly country epics, political satire and even kiddie films (!) Third Eye Cinema 10/21/12 with James Rivera of Helstar
Sunday Oct 21, 2012
Sunday Oct 21, 2012
Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: James Rivera, vocalist for cult power/speed metal band Helstar! Making their debut way back in 1982 as one of the earliest bands of the Texas metal scene, and often touted as the very first speed metal band (predating Agent Steel, Znowhite and Helloween), Helstar delivered four albums that have been cited as an influence by any number of latter day metal acts: Burning Star, Remants of War, A Distant Thunder and Nosferatu! After pursing a number of projects throughout the dark days of the grunge era, Helstar came back together to deliver 4 releases in the last 6 years, with James not content to merely retain his soaring vocal style, but actually sounding better than he did back in the early days! Now hitting fans full force with the CD and DVD versions of a truly epic concert that covers a healthy selection of material from all of their albums to date, Helstar is looking ahead to giving us yet another studio album early next year! Third Eye Cinema 10/14/12 with Gigi Hangach of Phantom Blue
Sunday Oct 14, 2012
Sunday Oct 14, 2012
Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: Gigi Hangach, vocalist and frontwoman for well respected female melodic shredders Phantom Blue! Making their debut in 1989 as the first and only all-female band on noted guitar shred label Shrapnel Records, Phantom Blue dropped a slab of aggressive, well structured metal very much in the vein of infamous shred maestros Racer X that has become a much sought after album among collectors, with the band finally gaining some serious (and well deserved) respect among today's metal aficionados! Moving to Geffen Records for their 1993 followup Built to Perform, the band took on a dramatic change in style, while still delivering a solid album with some excellent blues-inflected vocals. After a few more releases during the dark days of the 90's, the band went their separate ways, but reunited recently to salute a fallen comrade. Now making a name for herself as a dedicated animal activist, Gigi joins us to talk about being "the female Racer X", what inspired the lyrical shift on the second album, and giving some respect to our furry friends! Third Eye Cinema 9/30/12 with Tim Ritter
Sunday Sep 30, 2012
Sunday Sep 30, 2012
Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: the Tim Ritter 2012 remaster! The second Third Eye Cinema interview, much closer to the show format, originally aired live in somewhat looser form on our sister show last year. We've tightened things up to keep things moving and given a bit of a tune up to the proceedings, to make them more listener friendly exclusivedly for airing on Third Eye Cinema! Veteran of over 14 films in the SOV/indie cinema genre, Tim sold the script and took the directors reins on Truth or Dare right out of high school at the ripe old age of 17 - a film with national distribution and outside investor production costs approximating $250K! Since then, Tim's given us no less than four Truth or Dare films relating to Mike Strauber and the viral nature of the cult of serial killer celebrity, plus such fan favorites as Killing Spree, Creep, the Twisted Illusions and Dirty Cop films, and perhaps most interesting of all, the unusual but affecting slasher / black comedy / exploration of spiritual belief, Reconciled With the Christ! Third Eye Cinema 9/23/12 with Tony Portaro of Whiplash
Sunday Sep 23, 2012
Sunday Sep 23, 2012
Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: the legendary Tony Portaro, guitarist and vocalist of Whiplash! One of the most driving and aggressive bands in the thrash/speed metal underground, Whiplash, originally comprised of the well respected "three Tonys" (Portaro, Scaglione and Bono) bring their East Coast sensiblities, impeccable musicianship and close kinship to the New York hardcore scene to the table on such classic slabs of ripping force as Power and Pain, Ticket to Mayhem and the "reunion" album Thrashback! With a number of head banging classics under their belt (and a veritable laundry list of musicians having passed through their ranks), Tony and the latest incarnation of the band are about to drop a new release on us, intending to capture the raw speed and force of their early days! Join us for an in depth discussion with the one and only Tony Portaro, only here on Third Eye Cinema! thirdeyecinema@hotmail.com http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema
