Welcome to Third Eye Cinema! Tonight we'll be speaking with Brian Lawrence, guitarist and vocalist for cult doom/thrash metal band Dream Death! Having only one 1987 studio album to their credit, the reputation of this fearsome and unclassifiable underground metal band has grown to exponential proportions in intervening years, to the point where original copies of their much sought after album commanded high prices in the collector's market! Long considered the crown jewel in the New Renaissance Records catalog, this undiscovered gem has taken a place all its own in the field of 80's metal! Often classified as some unique hybrid of doom, thrash and even proto-death metal, Dream Death has garnered a long-deserved reputation as one of the heaviest, rawest and darkest bands in metal, prompting the long-belated releases of an early live show and a compilation of their demo work to satisfy fan demand for more material! And now, 25 years on, there are burgeoning rumors of a new record rearing its eldritch head on the horizon... Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: we're talking music with Dan Cleary of Canadian traditional metal band Striker! From their inception in 2007 to date, they've been carrying the torch of classic 80's style metal, delivering a surprising mix of old school styles from British heavy rock and NWOBHM to Los Angeles glam to head splitting speed, all tied up in one melodic, chameleonlike package! With a focus on the sublime pleasures of beer and the ability to tap into such disparate influences as Grim Reaper, Dokken and Agent Steel, this is going to be a band to watch for fans of traditional metal! Pour yourself a cold one and join us as we talk barre chords and barstools with Dan Cleary of Striker, only here on Third Eye Cinema! thirdeyecinema@hotmail.com http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema

Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: a retro metal triple threat! First: Alex Gutierrez of Mortillery, a brand new band exploding onto the retro-traditional thrash scene! With a background in punk and a clear and obvious love of classic 80's San Francisco Bay Area thrash, Mortillery combines some seriously traditional stylings with some very modern touches and is poised to take the metal scene by storm! Fans of old school US style thrash in the tradition of Overkill, Forbidden, Heathen, Vio-Lence and Znowhite are advised to check this one out! Next: Jason Decay of Toronto retro-traditional melodic metal band Cauldron! One of the first bands of the style in existence, Cauldron arose from the ashes of Goat Horn, a doom metal act dating back to the late 90's who gradually evolved into a more traditional melodic sound! With 2 acclaimed albums and an EP under their belt, Cauldron has been touring their Dokken/Killer Dwarves/Black N' Blue style sound around the US, Canada and Europe! Then, we present part 2 of our conversation with Chris Bennett of Widow, one of the earliest and still one of the best bands of the retro-traditional metal scene! Starting way back in the late 90's, Chris and John Wooten came out of the death metal scene with a then-unheard of passion for traditional 80's metal, and over the course of four albums almost singlehandedly created a scene that is thriving to this day, out of their home base of Raleigh, NC! Fans of melodic yet progressive metal in the tradition of Dokken, Crimson Glory, Leatherwolf and Mercyful Fate will surely want to tune in for this one... Join us for a hat trick of retro-traditional metal from the bands of today! thirdeyecinema@hotmail.com http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema

Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: we're talking music! We'll be speaking with Chris Bennett of Widow, one of the earliest and still one of the best bands of the retro-traditional metal scene! Starting way back in the late 90's, Chris and John Wooten came out of the death metal scene with a then-unheard of passion for traditional 80's metal, and over the course of four albums almost singlehandedly created a scene that is thriving to this day, out of their home base of Raleigh, NC! With their third record referred to by Terrorizer magazine as one of the "ten best albums of the decade that sounds like it wasn't recorded in this decade", Widow has been blazing a trail and creating a movement in Raleigh mirrored only by the Toronto scene for "old style" melodic metal performed by up and coming young bands! Fans of melodic yet progressive metal in the tradition of Dokken, Crimson Glory, Leatherwolf and Mercyful Fate will surely want to tune in for this one... Join us for another of our discussions with the leaders of the retro-traditional metal revival, when we speak to guitarist and vocalist Chris Bennett of Widow! thirdeyecinema@hotmail.com http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema

Third Eye Cinema 7/8/12 with Mem Von Stein of Exumer
Sunday Jul 08, 2012
Sunday Jul 08, 2012
Tonight on Third Eye Cinema: the legendary Mem Von Stein of German thrash veterans Exumer! This evening, we have with us one of the driving forces behind one of the most intense old school thrash metal bands in history! With one amazingly aggressive record under their belt, Exumer fell victim to personnel and stylistic changes, and folded shortly thereafter. But with the dawn of the retro movement, more and more fans came to realize that 1986' Possessed By Fire was truly one of the best of not only the amazing German thrash scene, but one of the best thrash records ever made, PERIOD. Now, after 25 years, the original band leaders of Mem Von Stein (vocals) and Ray Mensh (guitars) are back together, and cliche notwithstanding, sounding better than ever with the punishing Fire & Damnation - a record more aggressive than those put out by bands half their age! A street level progressive who lives his beliefs and social worker by trade, Mem channels his frustration at what's going wrong with our society into music as powerful (if not moreso!) than he was making a quarter century gone by! Join us for an entertaining and informative discussion with the one and only Mem Von Stein of Exumer, only here on Third Eye Cinema! thirdeyecinema@hotmail.com http://www.facebook.com/ThirdEyeCinema
